Why does the Honda CRX climate control panel fall apart?

On the 1988–1991 CRX the heater/HVAC control housing is a brittle plastic frame that cracks after 30+ years under the dashboard's heat cycles. The mounting tabs snap first, then the whole housing loses rigidity

Do I get a complete climate control unit or only the housing?

The housing only. You transfer your own sliders, levers, fan and A/C switches, cables and bulbs into the new frame. Honda discontinued the complete temperature control assembly, and surviving used units sell for several hundred euros — rehousing your existing, working controls is the sensible repair.

Is this better than a steel face plate or epoxy repair?

Those only cover the front. A stick-on repair plate hides a cracked face but does nothing for broken mounting tabs, and epoxy on 35-year-old brittle plastic fails again at the next crack. This is a full structural replacement of the housing itself, printed in Nylon 12, which stays tough instead of going brittle.

Can I use a Honda Civic EF climate control panel in a CRX instead?

No. The 1988–1991 Civic uses a fully mechanical push/pull cable control, while the CRX unit is partly motor-actuated — the two are not interchangeable, which is exactly why used CRX controls have become so expensive. This replacement keeps your original CRX mechanism.

Which CRX versions does the panel fit?

It fits the 1988–1991 Honda CRX in DX, HF and Si trim, and customers have fitted it to the European EE8 CRX VTEC as well.

How do I install the CRX climate control housing?

The dashboard centre section has to come out to remove the control unit, then the internals are moved over to the new housing one at a time.
